Frequently Asked Questions

I’d like to get involved with triathlon at some point, but I’m not in great shape at the moment. Can I still train with you guys?

- Absolutely, the club embraces athletes of all abilities. Come train with us, it will be the most effective way to get in shape and get fitter.

I’d like to take up triathlon, but can hardly swim at the moment, should I take lessons before I join?

- No. The club is proud to run the only coached swimming sessions in the west of Edinburgh open to athletes of any ability. Many of our members are not strong swimmers when they first join and the club is here to motivate and encourage people to swim.

I haven’t got a suitable bike at the moment. Can I still get involved?

- Absolutely, there is no compulsion to come to all training sessions so new members are welcome to only swim and run. Feel free to fall in love with the club before thinking about investing in a snazzy bike. Many of our members use mountain bikes or hybrids to train and compete.

What is the minimum amount of kit I need to get started in training?

- Swimming costume, goggles, bike, bike helmet, running trainers, comfortable clothing to run and cycle in.

What is the minimum age for joining Pentland Triathletes?

- At this point in the clubs development we are restricting membership to men and women aged 16 or over.

Do I have to participate in races?

- Participation in events is completely up to the individual, and no pressure is applied to members to take part in races. The clubs goal is each individual to enjoy their own physical achievements and being part of the club.

Are there any additional costs after joining?

- An additional charge of £3 is made to members who attend the Saturday morning swim session to cover the cost of pool hire and attendance of life guards.
