We are an enthusiastic and friendly triathlon club containing a good mix of male and female members of varying ages. The structure of the club supports both the serious trainer and competitor as well as those that are simply looking for an opportunity to exercise and socialising with like-minded individuals. We are based in the South West Edinburgh area where easy access to the Pentland Hills provides us with an ideal training environment (Google Map/Bing Map). We meet regularly to train and compete in triathlon (see the training and events calendar).
Event - Summer Sotstice Triathlon

This is fun, non-sanctioned event that is free for all participants who will compete entirely at their own risk. We run these events twice a year - After the race season is finished (October) and before the triathlon season kicks off (March). At these times of the year the weather may have an impact so come dressed accordingly.
The cycle and run routes will be marked but marshalling will be minimal, so pay attention at the race briefing!
We book a room in the school for the 'apres-tri' party which follows on from the event; this will give you the opportunity to socialise with your fellow competitors, meet our club members and warm up with cakes, tea, coffee etc.
This event is open to both members and non-members. If you plan to participate, please let us know by sending an e-mail to: events@pentlandtriathletes.co.uk

DATE OF NEXT TRY-A-TRI: To Be Announced
2013 Summer Solstice Triathlon - 12th June 2013
The 2012 Summer Solstice Triathlon raises £400 for the Pentland Hills Regional Park Rangers Service.

The 2012 Pentland Triathletes Solstice triathlon took place on the 19th June this year. It was a great success and we even managed to select one of the few warm and sunny evenings that June had on offer this year. The downside was that it appeared the local midges had invited their west coast cousins over for a party on the same evening; and we were on the menu!
Joanne Thom repeated her success of 2011 and was the overall female winner. Last years overall male winner, Bob Hume had to settle for second this year with John Woodrow taking the title. Congratulations to both the winners. Congratulations also go out to Regina Alcorn and Paul Browne who got engaged out on the route! it must have had a big impact on their finishing time, but we are chuffed they chose our event for the occasion.
The results for the 2012 event are now available to view in both MS Excel and PDF format on the Results page. We had a couple of professional photographers at the event so if you took part you should be able to find a at least one photo of yourself at either Niall Darroch - Solstice Tri Photos or Bob Marshall - Solstice Tri Photos. We have also uploaded some of Niall's photos into our website Gallery.

Swimming takes place at Balerno High School at 7:30 on Saturday mornings and at the Commonwealth Pool at 7:30 on Monday evenings. During the summer months we also do open water swimming at Threipmuir reservoir; either with the Tri Centre every 2nd Wednesday, or on an ad-hoc basis.
Self run cycle rides take place all year round. During the summer we will cycle on a Tuesday and Thursday evening leaving from Balerno High School at 7pm; weather and numbers permitting. There will also be ad-hoc weekend cycle rides. During the darker evenings (September through March) we run a weekly bike spinning session. Please see the training calendar for the day, time and venue for these. These are preceded by 30 minutes of core strengthening/stretching exercises.
We offer our club turbos for hire for the winter, at a cost of £10, £5 of which will be returned if the turbo is undamaged when it comes back. Please contact our cycling coordinator, Frank Tooley, if you wish to take up this offer.
During the off season we have coached running sessions led by our coach Karl (http://www.dzfitness.co.uk/). These will take place at 08:45 on Saturday mornings after swimming. These run on select dates only so please check the training calendar.
On the Saturdays when there are no coached running sessions we will often have a group of runners participating in the 5K Park Run.
