We are an enthusiastic and friendly triathlon club containing a good mix of male and female members of varying ages. The structure of the club supports both the serious trainer and competitor as well as those that are simply looking for an opportunity to exercise and socialising with like-minded individuals. We are based in the South West Edinburgh area where easy access to the Pentland Hills provides us with an ideal training environment (Google Map/Bing Map). We meet regularly to train and compete in triathlon (see the training and events calendar).
2013 Summer Solstice Triathlon - 12th June 2013
The 3rd Pentland Triathletes Solstice triathlon took place on the 12th June this year. It was another success on a warm, dry and calm evening. The course was in good condition after a couple of weeks dry weather. Joanne Thom was the female winner for the 3rd year in a row - even although she cycled the last section with a flat type after puncturing on the gravel path down to Harlaw. Alan McLean was the male winner in a fantastic time of 1:11:00.
Being right in the middle of nowhere, this event is a logistical challenge to put on and it wouldn't be possible without the hard work and assistance of a lot of people. So a big 'Thank You' to:
The results for the 2013 event are now available to view on the Results page. Have a look at the event photos taken by Our own Niall Darroch and Bob Marshall. Finally, here is a great YouTube video of the event recorded by friends of one of the competitors:

If you are keen to participate in a triathlon, but are tentative about competing in a full-on event, Pentland triathletes run short, informal events that are a great introduction to this multi-discipline sport. Our Try-a Tri involves a 400 metre pool swim, a 10 kilometre bike ride on quiet roads and a 5 kilometre flat off-road run. The event is based at Balerno High School and you need to be ready at the poolside for a 7:30 am start.
This is fun, non-sanctioned event that is free for all participants who will compete entirely at their own risk. We run these events twice a year - After the race season is finished (October) and before the triathlon season kicks off (March). At these times of the year the weather may have an impact so come dressed accordingly.
The cycle and run routes will be marked but marshalling will be minimal, so pay attention at the race briefing!
We book a room in the school for the 'apres-tri' party which follows on from the event; this will give you the opportunity to socialise with your fellow competitors, meet our club members and warm up with cakes, tea, coffee etc.
This event is open to both members and non-members. If you plan to participate, please let us know by sending an e-mail to: email@example.com
DATE OF NEXT TRY-A-TRI: 26th October 2013

Swimming takes place at Balerno High School at 7:30 on Saturday mornings and at the Commonwealth Pool at 7:30 on Monday evenings. During the summer months we also do open water swimming at Threipmuir reservoir; either with the Tri Centre every 2nd Wednesday, or on an ad-hoc basis.
Self run cycle rides take place all year round. During the summer we will cycle on a Tuesday and Thursday evening leaving from Balerno High School at 7pm; weather and numbers permitting. There will also be ad-hoc weekend cycle rides. During the darker evenings (September through March) we run a weekly bike spinning session. Please see the training calendar for the day, time and venue for these. These are preceded by 30 minutes of core strengthening/stretching exercises.
We offer our club turbos for hire for the winter, at a cost of £10, £5 of which will be returned if the turbo is undamaged when it comes back. Please contact our cycling coordinator, Frank Tooley, if you wish to take up this offer.
During the off season we have coached running sessions led by our coach Karl (http://www.dzfitness.co.uk/). These will take place at 08:45 on Saturday mornings after swimming. These run on select dates only so please check the training calendar.
On the Saturdays when there are no coached running sessions we will often have a group of runners participating in the 5K Park Run.
